1. Who we are

PhoneNest Pty Ltd ("PhoneNest", "we", "us", "our") is an Australian company registered in Queensland (ABN 42 653 034 989). Our registered office is 283 Given Terrace, Paddington QLD 4064. We are licensed as a second-hand dealer in QLD.

2. What we collect

When you use PhoneNest, we collect personal information necessary to process your trade-in:

  • Your name, email address, mobile number, and Australian residential address.
  • A photo of your Australian driver's licence and the licence number for ID verification.
  • Device details: model, storage, condition answers, and your AusPost tracking information.
  • Payment details: bank BSB and account number, or your PayID handle.
  • Communications you send us (emails, contact-form messages).
  • Standard server logs (IP address, timestamp, browser type) for security and abuse prevention.

3. How we use it

We use your information only for:

  • Generating your quote and processing your trade-in submission.
  • Verifying your identity (QLD second-hand dealer compliance, AML/KYC).
  • Paying you and providing post-sale customer support.
  • Communicating with you about your trade-in (status updates, revised offers).
  • Improving the website and complying with our legal obligations.

We do not sell your data. We do not use it for marketing without your explicit opt-in.

4. How we store it

Personal data is stored in our managed MongoDB instance with TLS-encrypted connections and encryption at rest. Driver's licence photos are stored in a secured object store accessible only by authenticated staff. We use industry-standard practices to protect against unauthorised access — though no system is ever 100% secure.

5. How long we keep it

We hold your driver's licence photo for 90 days after we pay you for your device, after which it's permanently deleted. Other transaction records are kept for seven years as required by Australian tax and AML regulations. You can request earlier deletion of optional data via the contact form (subject to our legal retention obligations).

6. Who we share with

We share personal data only with:

  • Australia Post (for shipping labels and tracking).
  • Our payment provider (to disburse your payment).
  • Law enforcement when required by Australian law.

We do not share your data with marketing networks, ad platforms, or data brokers.

7. Your rights

Under the Australian Privacy Act 1988 you have the right to:

  • Request access to the personal information we hold about you.
  • Request correction of inaccurate information.
  • Request deletion of optional data we hold.
  • Lodge a complaint with the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC).

8. Cookies

We use a single essential session cookie to keep you logged into your admin area. We do not use tracking cookies, ad cookies, or third-party analytics. We display a small cookie banner on first visit so you know.

9. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. We'll update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page when we do. Material changes will be highlighted via a banner on the homepage for at least 30 days.
